Christmas greetings from the Apostolic Visitor with a special role for the parish of Medjugorje, Archbishop Aldo Cavalli
We celebrate the birth of Jesus. We celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Gospel shows us Jesus the Savior, the Redeemer, the Living One, also shows us, in a profound way, the meaning of Jesus’ birth. From the Gospel of Luke: “I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the world. Today a Savior has been born to you, Christ the Lord, in the city of David. Our faith is summed up in this expression: God has made himself one of us, in Jesus of Nazareth, Christ, Lord, Savior.
Our faith is based on a single event: the Incarnation. Our faith is based on a Person: Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God.
The question we ask ourselves as we face this profound truth of our faith is: why did God become one of us? The reason for this is found again in the Gospel, in a song in the Gospel of Luke: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests . Peace on earth to men and women of good will.”
This is why God became like us because he loves us, God became like us because he loves me, God became like us because he loves you: love me as I am, loves you as you are, because in Jesus we are His children.
This is Jesus’ authentic Christmas wish: peace to you, peace to your family, peace to your community, peace… because God loves you, because God loves us.
Merry Christmas to everyone in the peace of Jesus Christ!
