AND FOR THE QUEEN OF PEACE HE WAS IMMEDIATELY CRYED AND
CROSS
Forty-three years ago, news of the apparitions was spreading quickly. Not even the telephone lines, interrupted due to a violent storm, had managed to slow down its spread: one might say that only the Parish Priest, Father Jozo who was in Zagreb, was unaware of it. That Friday, June 26, 1981, is the day in which Vicka, on the advice of her grandmother, sprinkled the Apparition with an abundant quantity of holy water: “If you come from God, stay with us; but if you don’t come from God, go away!”. Our Lady, under that blessed rain, smiled and said: “My dear angels, I have come to tell you that God exists, that humanity has distanced itself from God, has fallen asleep. The human race must return to God, it must convert!. After the apparition, going down, a hundred meters from the village, where the second joyful mystery is now located, the Madonna reappears again to Marija who preceded all the others. At the end, Marija told what she had sobbing seen: “The Gospa, through tears, repeated to me three times – Peace, peace, peace, be reconciled! Be reconciled with God and with each other! And to do this it is necessary to believe, pray, fast and confess.” Our Lady’s tears fell on her dress and on the cloud on which she was leaning.
Behind her was a dark gray, almost black cross, but without the crucified Christ. The Cross is the sign of our Redemption and Reconciliation. Ten years later, war with Serbia broke out on June 26, 1991. Once in town, Marija informed everyone present of what had happened and that the time had come for people to confess. From that moment Medjugorje began to become the “Confessional of the World”. After 43 years, yesterday evening too the Gospa seems to want to confirm that heartfelt appeal: “Children, peace is in danger and the family is under attack. I invite you, children, return to family prayer”.
